Zenith launches India’s cheapest laptop to cost Rs 14999

Zenith Computers has launched India’s lowest-priced laptop, at Rs 14,999 under the brand name ‘EcoStyle. The company also launched a desktop at Rs 11,999 in Mumbai.It comes with Windows Vista or XP Home Edition. These products are launched in collaboration with global software giant Microsoft.
Both the laptop and the desktop come with preloaded windows XP operating system. The users will also have an option to load Vista Starter instead of Windows XP. Other software such as Windows Live Suite and the Microsoft Works are also pre-loaded.

The company claims that both the Desktop and the Laptop have low power consumption and are net enabled. Zenith expects that the new launch could drive higher sales, making computers affordable to the masses.

According to the company, the portability of the PC makes it convenient for professionals to carry it whenever they need to – it weighs just 2.2 kg and has dimensions of 185mm x 250 mm x 70 mm, while
the PCs come with the option of choosing between AMD, Via or Intel processors. The desktops come with a 15-inch CRT monitor, with an upgrade to a 15-inch TFT LCD monitor costing an extra Rs 2,500. The PCs would be available around Diwali in India.

The company aims at selling 1-lakh desktops by March 2009. Zenith’s manufacturing plant at Goa currently produces 20,000 units a month and the company is planning to increase the capacity by another one thousand.
